This is the Sunday we light the pink candle in the tradition of our church. Many moons ago, Advent was considered a “Little Lent” and was much more serious in its observation and ritual. There was a much more penitential feel to the season.. more somber. No singing or perhaps no organ music, somber reflection in the readings… and so the third Sunday was a day for a bit of a reprieve from penance. So we will rejoice tonight. We will light the pink candle and snuggle by the fire as a family, and look forward to the coming week, which ends on Wednesday when school lets out. We will rejoice that we had more rain this morning. We will rejoice that our hearts are full.
